Fire Risk Assessments and fire safety inspections nationwide
Since 2006 when the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force all workplaces must have a Fire Risk Assessment in place.
The Order applies to all workplaces unless you work at home, in the air, offshore or a few other exceptions. The Responsible Person has to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment and, if your organisation employs five or more people, you have to record the assessment findings. A Responsible Person is defined as the employer but can include other individuals. If a building is shared the responsibility may be shared and the landlord may have overall responsibility for the whole building.
Serious fires affect businesses seriously. More than 70% of businesses involved in large fires never reopen or cease trading within 3 years.
Our Fire Risk Assessments follow a recognised format and look at all areas of the premises and fire safety management:
- Premises structure and location
- People in the workplace, visitors and contractors
- Fire hazards including:
- Building services
- Kitchens and kitchen extract systems
- Work processes
- Fire protection including:
- Means of escape
- Emergency escape lighting
- Fire alarm and detection systems
- Fire safety signs
- Management procedures and training
The Fire Risk Assessment will include Fire Action Plans showing the layout of the premises and the fire safety and protection measures in place and recommendations for actions to be taken immediately or medium and long term.
